All students enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Science in Health Sciences Program in the School of Health Professions are subject to the general regulations of the University. Students seeking admission to the Health Sciences Program must be admitted to the University and should enroll in the School of Health Professions.
The BHS in Health Sciences program does not require an application. Students may declare their major in the Health Sciences program by indicating the program on the MU application (for new students), filling out a transfer of division form (for current MU students), or indicating their intention to declare a Health Sciences major to their academic advisor (for current SHP students). There is a 2.0 MU and cumulative GPA requirement to declare a major in Health Sciences. The cumulative GPA is calculated on all MU and transfer coursework. Students must maintain the 2.0 GPA, term and cumulative, to remain in the Health Sciences program. Students who fail to achieve that GPA may stay in the program for one probationary semester. If the 2.0 term or cumulative GPA is not achieved after one probation semester, students must transfer out of the Health Sciences program.
Acceptance of Transfer Credit A maximum of 64 semester hours of credit completed at a junior/community college may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree. Coursework completed at an accredited four-year institution will be accepted without limitation. Transfer students must complete all coursework required for the Health Sciences program, including MU general education requirements. Students must complete the final 30 of 36 semester hours of credit enrolled at the University of Missouri. Students transferring from any other college within the University of Missouri system to the School of Health Professions are considered transfer students.
Courses may be delivered using traditional or distance delivery methods. The Health Sciences degree program credits must include a minimum of 120 university-level credit hours, including:
Students in the Health Sciences program are required to submit a graduation plan upon completion of sixty credit hours (including transfer coursework). The graduation plan must be filled out by the student, and then taken to their academic advisor for approval. Students who transfer to SHP from another division or college/university who have completed sixty hours or more must submit their graduation plan the same semester they transfer to the Health Sciences program in SHP. Students should meet with their academic advisor to discuss the graduation plan, and then file their plan prior to early registration for the fall, summer and spring semesters (registration dates are available on the university registrar’s web site). If a student does not file and have their graduation plan approved by their academic advisor, a negative service indicator will be placed in their student services center, which will place a hold on registration. Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in HP 2100, Seminar in Health Sciences to develop their graduation plan and goals for the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Health Sciences.
CPD Healthcare Leadership & Organization (3 credit hours) & HP4975 Fieldwork in the Health Sciences (1-6 credit hours): The Health Sciences capstone requires students to complete a three hour course and one to six credit hours of an internship, service learning project, study abroad service learning project, or work in a health-related field. The fieldwork requires a minimum of 50 clock hours for every credit hour enrolled. Most students will complete 1 credit hour of fieldwork, but we have an opportunity for students to earn more credit hours for extended projects. The fieldwork will be approved by the capstone course instructor. Students may find their own fieldwork experience or work with the course instructor/academic advisor to identify an appropriate placement given interests and goals.

Students are not required, but strongly encouraged to enroll in the one credit hour course HP 2100 Health Sciences Seminar by the first semester of their junior year. The seminar course will help students identify strengths, interests and develop a comprehensive and well-researched plan for the Health Sciences program.
A grade of D- or higher will be accepted for all general education coursework. All required core and elective coursework for the Health Sciences program, including requirements outside the department, must be completed with a grade of C-or higher. If a required course is retaken for credit, the higher grade on the second attempt may be used for calculating GPA.
With the approval of the Deans of the School of Health Professions and Graduate School, seniors who have a B average in the most recent 45 semester hours of credit, and are within 12 hours of completing graduation requirements, may dually enroll for up to six semester hours of graduate credit while enrolled as undergraduates. Application for dual enrollment must be completed and approved by the Graduate School within one month after the start of the fall and winter semesters and within three weeks after the start of the summer session. Additional information may be obtained from the Graduate School.
