Clinical Laboratory Scientists are trained in the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical laboratory medicine – chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular pathology, and blood banking. There is a critical national shortage of trained Clinical Laboratory Scientists (63% of labs are having difficulty in hiring staff-level CLS positions) and there will be a continuing need in years to come (25% of the current CLS workforce will retire in next 10 years).
