Review of Neonatal Resuscitation and Stabilization Learning Objectives CRCE (1 hour)

Upon completion of this program, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the factors affecting the newborn's condition.
  2. Discuss the four stages of fetal development, and the corresponding lung development.
  3. Discuss surfactant production and the importance of the L/S ratio.
  4. Obtain a pertinent maternal history and recognize the risk factors associated with maternal conditions.
  5. Discuss the transition from fetal to newborn circulation.
  6. Assess the infant using the APGAR scoring system.
  7. Assess the infant using the NRP guidelines.
  8. Demonstrate proper techniques for resuscitating the infant using the NRP guidelines.
  9. Recognize signs of different newborn infant respiratory distress patterns.
