National Student Speech Language Hearing Association

The Department sponsors a local chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA). NSSLHA is a professional organization for undergraduate and graduate students in Communication Science and Disorders and is the only student organization that is affiliated with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend local meetings and to become actively involved in the national organization as well. Membership in the national organization provides numerous benefits including professional journal subscriptions and eligibility for a discount on initial ASHA membership dues. The local chapter, MU-NSSLHA, is a service organization that provides students the opportunity to interact and socialize with other CSD students while taking part in service projects throughout the school year. A major project each year is the Annual MU-NSSLHA Update Seminar, a full-day continuing education event that draws speech-language pathologists not only from central Missouri, but from the Kansas City and St. Louis areas as well. MU-NSSLHA meets once monthly throughout the Fall and Spring Semesters. Meetings are announced via e-mail and flyers posted throughout the Department.
