Department of Health Psychology
The SHP Department of Health Psychology (MU DHP) is dedicated to meeting the needs of Missourians with disabilities by means of service, research and training.
MU DHP is comprised of neuropsychologists, rehabilitation and health psychologists who provide a wide variety of clinical services across the state of Missouri. MU DHP is the sole provider of neuropsychological and rehabilitation psychology services for the MU Health Sciences Center and the primary provider of these services for central Missouri. The MU DHP faculty includes eight psychologists board certified in rehabilitation or clinical neuropsychology.
Our goals are focused on helping individuals and their families adjust to disabilities by assisting with the clarification of impairments, the development of compensatory strategies, the process of coping with residual difficulties, and the identification of appropriate community resources.
Columbia-Missouri Health Sciences Psychology Consortium
MU DHP Faculty are committed to pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training in rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology. We are a primary training site for the Columbia-Missouri Health Sciences Psychology Consortium, an APA-approved internship program in collaboration with the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Our internship training offers specialization in the provision of adult services, via rotations in inpatient acute rehabilitation at Rusk Rehabilitation Center and in outpatient neuropsychological assessment at Ellis Fischel Hospital. Interns also have the opportunity to focus on work with pediatric populations at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, where training opportunities emphasize outpatient neuropsychological assessment as well as psychotherapy with individuals with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
