MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Student Occupational Therapy Association to Present Check to Support Local Power Wheelchair Soccer Program

WHAT:  The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) will present a $1,000 check to the Columbia Driving Force Power Soccer Fund       

WHO:   Three of the Driving Force players and Mark Ohrenberg, youth and family coordinator for the Services for Independent Living will be on hand to receive the donation from the SOTA members

WHERE:  The lobby of Lewis and Clark Halls, MU campus    

WHEN:   3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2009

WHY:  Driving Force is the Power Soccer team affiliated with the Services for Independent Living (SIL). Team members use power wheelchairs in their daily life and play soccer using the chairs in indoor gyms in St. Louis and out of state. Driving Force has nine players ranging in age from 14 to 55. Power Soccer is the only regulated national sport for power wheelchair users. SIL is a not-for- profit agency. The money will be used to purchase four metal soccer guards and a soccer ball. (The game uses a special oversized ball.)
