Careers in OT

Graduates of the Department of Occupational Therapy at MU have 100% job placement during or after graduation. They are employed as clinicians, administrators, academicians, and consultants.

Occupational therapists can work in a variety of settings, individually or in a team setting, including, but not limited to:

  • Neonatal and pediatric intensive care units
  • Adult intensive care units including specialized units for cardiac and pulmonary conditions and burns
  • Orthopedic and neurological units of hospitals to address cognitive and perceptual skills, and activities of daily living for safe discharge to home
  • Free-standing outpatient rehabilitation facilities to improve basic and instrumental activities of daily living, including specialized treatment and splinting for hand injuries
  • Schools and early intervention programs, to address learning or behavioral disabilities that are barriers to learning.
  • Home health to focus on activities of daily living in the home, also includes evaluation and redesign of home to remove barriers to independence
  • Skilled nursing and long term care facilities to increase function for return to home
  • Mental health facilities
  • Community wellness programs focused on prevention
  • Private practice
  • Consultants to industry to reduce workplace injuries.
