Adult Day Connection Centers

"I don't know what I would do if it weren't for this place."
—(Family Caregiver)

MU Adult Day Connection (formerly "Eldercare") participants are adults who benefit from therapeutic activities, exercise, nursing care and supervision at one of our two locations. While participants enjoy socializing at an Adult Day Connection center, family caregivers are free to work, shop or enjoy some free time. Not long ago, our name was changed from "Eldercare" to reflect our mission to care for adults of all ages.

Participants attend one to five days a week and the daily fee includes a hot noon meal. While medicaid and some insurance policies pay for adult day health care, Medicare does not. Financial assistance is available for those individuals or families who qualify.  The MU Adult Day Connection is a United Way agency and receives funds from the City of Columbia and Boone County.

History

In 1989 the School of Health Professions at the University of Missouri-Columbia acknowledged the crisis situation which faces our country's aging population and opened the Eldercare Center, the only state-licensed adult day health care program serving families in Columbia.  For several years, Citizens for Adult Day Care attempted to start an adult day care program, but could not gain adequate funding.  The School of Health Professions worked with this group for over two years to open the center.  The Eldercare Center was established as a self-supporting program.  The University of Missouri-Columbia provides space, utilities, insurance and housekeeping at our campus location in Clark Hall.  Fees for service and community support must help maintain the program.

Participants and families help decide which location best fits their needs.  Our well trained multi-disciplinary staff members provide person-centered care and nursing supervision in a comfortable environment.
