Volunteer Opportunities

- Adult Day Connection (formerly Eldercare Center ), an adult day health center. The ADC is consistently rated as one of the best volunteer facilities by MU students. Contact Amy Byergo, the ADC Director for more info: byergol@health.missouri.edu, 882-7070.
- The Health Connection is looking for volunteers to help distribute literature about their services throughout the Columbia community. Contact Jenny Workman, THC Director: workmanjl@health.missouri.edu .
- The Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders may have some volunteer opportunities; contact Dr. Steve Kanne: kannest@health.missouri.edu for more information.
- The PedNet Coalition in Columbia , a group that promotes walking/biking instead of driving, needs volunteers to help with the Walking School Bus, a project designed to help promote fitness and activity with school age kids. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved with a community health initiative. The program starts September 10th and leaders will walk for 10 weeks. Volunteers will walk with kids from 8-9am, 2-3 days per week. Volunteers must attend a one hour leader training workshop and a criminal background check. - The Mid-Missouri Crisis Line is currently recruiting volunteers for the fall semester. Volunteering with the MMCL is an excellent real life experience for students. - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Missouri will serve as a model organization by providing exemplary youth services which will promote education, build self-esteem, encourage healthy lifestyles and relationships. Our mission is to strengthen youth, families, and the community through mentor relationships between mature role models and youth from single-parent families. - A Way with Words and Numbers : A Way With Words & Numbers is a tutoring program that utilizes the skills and resources of graduate and undergraduate students at MU to help local students master the basic skills of literacy and math. Teams of tutors consisting of volunteers and work study students work at various sites in the Columbia community, assisting children in preschool through fifth grade, as well as adults. http://career.missouri.edu/A3WN/about/about.php
- Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center provides horseback riding therapy to people with disabilities in the mid-Missouri area. Cedar Creek needs hundreds of volunteers to operate, and we are always looking for new people! No horse experience is necessary, please call (573) 875-8556 to become involved.
